Alta Vista Basement
A home in the historic Washington Highlands had a renovated basement space, but it was dated and dark. The potential was there, shown in an existing fireplace and many surprises uncovered during demolition. Orange shag carpet was removed to reveal a vintage Terrazzo floor, an unexpected treasure that was worked into the new design. Also uncovered was an additional window hidden behind a built-in desk.
The new bar, ready to entertain, becomes the focal point of the basement. Two commercial grade refrigerators were a carry-over from the original bar area and were incorporated into the new design with custom cabinetry fronts. The back bar features inset shelving and amole storage. The bar front is created from imported black marble and brass rosette tile and blends well with the cherry wood used for the bar.
A custom wine cabinet was created to be easily moveable and also serves to hide the exercise space. The original gas burning fireplace is now the center of a seating area, and the entire basement is now open for business. Cheers!
